USF1 state intentions
24 February 2009
As announced last week, the new USF1 team is making progress towards an entry to the 2010 world championship. Sporting director Peter Windsor addressed the world this afternoon in a press conference live on US channel Speed.
Windsor, former Williams team principal and the voice behind televised F1 press conferences admitted that "It sounds very arrogant perhaps, but we have some history and we have some things that we want to bring into the sport that we think we can do well." The general idea presented by USF1 is that a team can be run without the financial support of either wealthy individuals or large car manufacturers as backing.
Windsor was joined at the press conference by Ken Anderson, long-time colleague and USF1 team principal. The pairing also announced that a small partner has already been confirmed to help funding for the squad as the search for more sponsors continues.
The team is to be based in Charlotte, and it is highly likely that at least one of the drivers will be of American nationality, with rumours already linking Indy stars Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick with the team.
